History

History of STRABAG Rail looks back on more than 85 years of competence all around the rail. In 1923 the foundations for our success today was laid with the establishment of the company Henrik Schlüntz in Heidelberg.

After the Second World War operations were resumed in 1947 with a new companion, Fritz Eichholz in the " Schlüntz and EICHHOLZ GmbH“. In Germany the entire traffic routes and in particular the rail transport infrastructure were destroyed as a consequence of the war - the huge reconstruction potential formed the basis for the expansion of our company during the next years. With the beginning of the 60s, the business was continuously expanded; the change from a niche supplier to a turnkey supplier with a wide service spectrum (company motto: all around the rail) is reflected, among others, in the buildup of the Engineering Department (1982), the Foundations Department (1995) and System Building Department (1996). When the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, the company management at the time / we saw early the possibility to position our company / ourselves as a competent partner for the rail infrastructure in the East German regions. Already in 1990 Eichholz-Bau GmbH was founded in Dresden, followed by subsidiaries in Berlin and Halle. In the 90s and after the turn of the millennium, we could prove our prominent rail competence in several demanding projects like building the city railway in Berlin (1994-1998), the Expo 2000 in Hannover (1996-2000), and participating in building up a high-speed line in Taiwan (2003). In 2006, STRABAG SE, one of the leading European construction groups, took over EICHHOLZ GmbH & Co KG. After having changed the company’s name to EIHHOLZ RAIL GmbH, business activities have been bundled, and operations continue. February 2009 the company name changed to STRABAG Rail GmbH - a step to communicate our belonging to STRABAG SE and profit from a strong brand. Under their roof, the STRABAG team offers us a highly cross-linked network of competences which allows us to successfully master the challenges of our customers in the future - just as we did in the past 85 years!
